Keep on the Shadowfell Demos Starting This Tuesday and Friday!

May. 12th, 2008 | 02:09 pm
posted by: [info]smoagendash in [info]pandemonium_bks

I will be running two demos of D&D4e module Keep on the Shadowfell, starting this Tuesday night (tomorrow, May 13th) and this Friday night (May 16th).  Both events will kick off at 6:30.  We have one slot open for Tuesday night and five slots for Friday night.  Folks who sign up will be able to pick up and copy of the Quick-Start rules and their pre-generated character after 5pm tonight.  I expect the module to run at least three weeks, but we'll see.  The combat rules look to emphasize fast and furious action!

(My favorite bit so far is Valiant Strike, a 1st level at-will Paladin ability that give the paladin a +1 bonus to hit for every adjacent enemy ( so +8 if the paladin is completely surrounded)!  Also, like what they've done with  Turn Undead: a successful turn does damage and pushes the undead back and briefly immobilizes them, while a miss simply does half damage.  That works for me! )

Please sign up below.  I'll update the available choices hourly.

EDIT:  btw: the remaining slots are not restricted to those who have pre-ordered or are willing to run games at the store.

D&D 4th Edition Demos starting REAL SOON!

May. 9th, 2008 | 01:04 pm
posted by: [info]smoagendash in [info]pandemonium_bks

We just received in a demo copy of the upcoming D&D 4th Edition release, Keep on the Shadowfells!  I am going to read through it over the weekend, and then start running demos at the store beginning next week.   Looking through it so far, I have to say that I am very impressed!

The first demos are going to be reserved for folks interested in running open 4th edition games at the store over the summer.  Second priority goes to those nice people who have pre-ordered their 4th edition at Pandemonium.  After that, first come, first serve!

If you are interested in playing, please email events(at)pandemoniumbooks(dot)com.  Let us know:

1) what nights you are available to play,
2) whether you are interested in running demos over the summer
3) whether you have pre-ordered 4th ed D&D from us

and we'll get this started!

Pandemonium is Hiring!

We are looking for two part-time workers to work Saturday afternoons (noon-6pm) and one weeknight shift (6pm-11pm), for an average of 11 hours per week.   We pay $9/hour and employees receive a 30% discount.  Duties would mostly entail basic retail counter work: customer service and sales,  data entry,  unpacking and shelving shipments, maintenance, etc.

Obviously a deep knowledge of the science fiction/fantasy genre is a must, and gaming experience is a definite plus.  Plus note that I am looking for long-term employees; folks looking for a summer job should look elsewhere!  Email me at tyler(AT)pandemoniumbooks(DOT)com for an application.  Thanks!

Ok, so earlier I noticed that there was a rather magic user-y looking kitty on I Can Has Cheezburger?, and I sent a link to a few of my friends, including Tyler. He sent it back to me with the amended comment below, and it amused me too damn much not to modify the lolcat. Obviously, someone left the bathroom door open.

The phrase 'long dark tea-time of the soul' has been floating around in my head a lot, lately.

I think that's what time it is in Amanda-land.

figures up for grabs

I know there used to be an open fig gaming night, I want to say it was every other or every third Monday or something like that. Is that still going on?
If so, I was wondering if it would be OK for me to swing by with a bin of figs I have been toteing around for years and would like to find new homes for. If memory serves me, there is a Bloodbowl team, some random D&D figs, and several large dragon statues. Some are partially painted, some primed, some blank, and all at least 6+ years old, so nothing new. All are opened so I figured they would not be eligible for sale in the store. I wanted to see if it was OK to bring the bin by during the fig night and see if anyone might be interested in them for a few bucks or trade in something. If the store deems it not OK to bring them in, anyone interested please feel free to contact me off-list and we can arrange something.
Thanks for your time!

I'm planning on going to the Neil Gaiman lecture at MIT on May 23 at 7pm. I bought my ticket to the Gaiman lecture from Pandemonium Books, so I was wondering if there was anyone from Pandemonium who was also going to this event?

Thank you in advance!

Saturday Night Suggestion

May. 7th, 2008 | 06:34 pm
posted by: [info]unquietsoul5 in [info]pandemonium_bks

I've been looking over the Pandemonium calendar and can't help but notice that most Saturday Nights are pretty much empty for July, August and September (the upcoming Quarter). And, well, the number of roleplaying games presently running on the schedule is rather sparse. So the question is, are there folks interested in putting together a Saturday Night Roleplaying Gaming group for this summer?

Considering the high cost of travel, lots of folks aren't vacationing out of state etc (Or so they tell us on the radio and TV) so maybe having some more Saturday Night options on the schedule might be of interest.

Not only that, we could use some variety.... like say Steampunk or Superhero games (rather than 'Classic High Fantasy').

So, any GMs (or players) that might be convinced to run such in Saturday Nights? (If no other GMs will step u,p or if we want to do some sort 'Round Robin' use of the time slot, I'd be willing to get the job done, though I'd prefer being a player for a bit).

So, anyone interested?

D&D Minis Tournaments, every 3rd Wednesday, starting 5/21

May. 7th, 2008 | 03:26 pm
posted by: [info]pana1999yote in [info]pandemonium_bks

Once per month, on the third Wednesday of the month, we are going to sanction Standard D&D Minis Tournaments.  The first tournament will be on 5/21, and the next will be 6/18.  On other Wednesdays, we'll continue to offer "casual" minis games and I am very willing to teach interested players how to play the game on those nights.

- I'd like tournament participants to arrive by 7:15 so that I can register you and start the tournament by 7:30.

- Tournament players should be at least 12 years old.

- Each participant can optionally pay a $5 entry fee to enter a prize pool based on the standings at the end of the tournament (every paying participant will receive several minis drafted from sealed boosters!)

- Regardless of payment and placement, each tournament player will also receive a promotional mini.

So if you are fairly comfortable with the new rules and want to try out your best warband in a competitive, timed tournament, you'll have your chance once a month!

As always, feel free to email me with any questions or stop by our table on Wednesdays at Pandemonium starting at 6:30pm.
